Everything you need to know about our drone photography services and FAA regulations
Part 107 is a set of FAA regulations that govern commercial drone operations in the United States. To legally operate a drone for commercial purposes (like our photography services), pilots must pass an aeronautical knowledge test and obtain a Remote Pilot Certificate. Our pilots are fully Part 107 certified, ensuring legal and safe operations for all our flights.
Under standard Part 107 rules, we cannot fly directly over people who are not participating in the operation or over moving vehicles. However, we can obtain specific waivers from the FAA for certain operations when necessary. For most real estate and commercial shoots, this is not a concern as we can position our shots to avoid these restrictions while still capturing stunning imagery.
Under Part 107 regulations, we are authorized to fly up to 400 feet above ground level (AGL). This altitude provides excellent perspectives for most aerial photography needs, including real estate, commercial, and construction documentation. In certain cases, we can fly higher when within 400 feet of a structure, which is useful for tall building photography.
Yes! As of April 2021, Part 107 allows night operations without requiring a waiver, provided the drone is equipped with anti-collision lighting visible for at least 3 statute miles. Our drones are fully equipped for night operations, allowing us to capture stunning twilight and evening shots for your property or event.
Flying in controlled airspace near airports requires prior authorization through the FAA's LAANC (Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability) system. We are experienced in obtaining these authorizations and can fly in most controlled airspace with proper approval. The authorization process is typically quick, often taking just minutes to approve.
While the FAA regulates the airspace and not the land below, we always recommend obtaining property owner permission when flying over private property as a matter of courtesy and to ensure smooth operations. For real estate photography, this is typically arranged through the listing agent or property owner who hires us.
Part 107 requires minimum visibility of 3 statute miles and that we remain clear of clouds. We also cannot fly in rain, heavy fog, or winds exceeding our equipment's safe operational limits (typically 25-30 mph). We monitor weather conditions closely and will reschedule if conditions are not safe for flight.
Yes, we carry comprehensive liability insurance specifically for drone operations. This protects both us and our clients in the unlikely event of an incident. We can provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) upon request, and can often add clients as additional insured if required.
Most residential real estate shoots take 30-60 minutes, depending on the property size and number of shots needed. Commercial projects may take longer. Our batteries allow approximately 30-40 minutes of flight time each, and we always bring multiple batteries to ensure we can complete the job.
We typically deliver edited photos and videos within 24-48 hours of the shoot. For rush jobs, same-day delivery may be available for an additional fee. All files are delivered via cloud download links in high-resolution formats ready for web, print, and social media use.
We serve Beaufort County and surrounding areas including Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Port Royal, Lady's Island, St. Helena Island, and parts of Jasper and Colleton counties. Travel fees may apply for locations outside our primary service area.
Drone flights in national parks are prohibited by the National Park Service. State parks typically have their own regulations, and some may allow permitted flights. We can help navigate these regulations and obtain necessary permits where possible, but many park locations have restrictions on drone use.
